We are delighted to announce that our new subsidiary company, Broadwick Computer Solutions Ltd., has won a valued and lucrative contract to manage the “Y2K” change-over to the new millennium for ScottishTelecom.

ScottishTelecom has grown rapidly since it was established by ScottishPower in 1994. Principal acquisitions have included the purchase interactive services, interactive service providers, call centre services and then the acquisition of Demon Internet last year.

As part of the Facilities Department, we shall be responsible for producing Business Contingency Plans (BCPs) for thirty ScottishTelecom and Demon Internet “Business Critical” sites mainly in the UK.
This is an incredibly important and responsible project, especially with respect to Internet and the World Wide Web, but also with respect to International terrorist threats at this vulnerable time.
1999-09 Edit: Initially for the Critical Rollover Period, the work has broadened to involve general contingencies as well as Internet and intranet information, including Fire & Emergency and Health & Safety procedures. Critical Sites included Demon Internet Telehouses (including New York, London and Amsterdam), as well as Call Centres for the likes of ScottishPower, Microsoft and the BBC.
The workload has increased to include a great deal of travelling, meetings, and liaising with Business Group Managers, Local Authorities, clients and suppliers, obtaining compliance statements, QA Authorisation and so on. We had the additional feature of the company being readied for rebranding and relaunching on the financial markets as a PLC.
1999-11 Edit: On 8 October 1999, “ScottishTelecom” changed its name to “Thus” and floated on the stockmarket as “Thus plc”.
2000-03 Edit: The project was a complete success! We received plaudits and bonuses before assisting in the Y2K departmental decommissioning.
