NIFES
October 1, 1993
We are extremely pleased to announce a new and challenging project with the National Industrial Fuel Efficiency Service Limited, N.I.F.E.S. Consulting Group, (Energy advisers and consulting engineers) of Altrincham, Cheshire.
We have been contracted to work on the offshore refurbishment of the Cormorant Alpha oil platform — specifically to completely replace the jacket ductwork for which we shall produce all the detailed engineering drawings for pricing, manufacture, shipping and installation based on offshore surveys already done by NIFES’s Phil Wilder and Bill Hallett.
The challenge is to get the task done to the strict deadline, and for the replacement installation to work first-time! We are delighted to finish 1993 on a high after last quarter’s dip — this project will not just help us regain lost ground, but turn the whole year around, and continue our consecutive run of successful years showing good growth.
1994-01 Edit: The task involved: doing material takeoffs, system appraisal and rationalisation (value engineering), and the production of H.V.A.C. installation and fabrication drawings to Shell (U.K.) Limited in-house standards which was mainly done manually on a drawing board, but which also involved some use of Intergraph Microstation and early AutoCAD computerised drawing systems. All documents had to be controlled to B.S.5750, there was a strict deadline to be met, and everything had to be pre-manufactured, hot-dip galvanised and thoroughly inspected before the shipping and installation window (during an expensive shut-down). There was a lot at stake, very little room for error, and absolutely no ductwork manufacturing or alteration facilities offshore.
We collaborated on this project (our contract #17) from October to November 1993 and not only met the deadlines and passed all audits, but we were officially commended on a 100 per cent perfect fit.
- This was one of our most successful contracts — a success in every respect.
